J Michael Phillips, the club's ultracyclist, will have his hell week (big training days before his "A" race of the season) like he did last year before his long virtual race. Hell week for him will be May 13-16th. He plans on doing four 12 hour days (4 double centuries) and would love to have support from anyone willing... either to ride part of this with him or do SAG support for him during his ride.
If you are interested in riding with or helping with his training, contact Mike at email@example.com
Thanks! I would appreciate any help I can get. Help could be riding with me for part of the day or the whole day, driving my crew van behind me and keeping me hydrated, fed and help take car of any issues with the bike. I plan on doing at least 2 days on Skyline drive. I may on one day do the Culpeper Century and the Old Cannonball Century from the YMCA a morning and a afternoon century.
The last day I will be doing a basecamp attempt (about 15,000 ft of climbing on one hill section, up and down and back up until we get 15,000 ft of climbing in)
The race I am training for is the Race Across the West which is in June and goes from Oceanside, CA to Durango, CO. It is a 925 mile race with a 92 hour time limit.
Appreciate any help
J. Michael Phillips
May 13th, first day of hell week I plan to ride a century from the YMCA starting at 6 am and then a metric starting at 1 pm from the Y. If anyone wants to ride with me on either or both I would be grateful. I think I have one person so far commited to riding both with me!!!
I am looking at Friday, May 14th to do the same times and miles but using the Cannonball routes.
Saturday the 15th, will be 12 hours on Skyline drive (route to be determined). I could use SAG support to follow me and support me during the ride or to have others join me for all or part of the day of riding.
Sunday May 16th will be Basecamp day. Basecamp is half of an Everest or 14,500 feet of climbing on the same hill. So, for instance, a 7 mile hill with 1450 feet of climbing... I would need to repeat the climb 10 times. It would be great to have pacers during the 12 hours it will take to do this. I am thinking either the climb from Sperryville to Thorten Gap or the first 7 miles of the climb from Front Royal entrance to Skyline drive.
This is all for preparation for the biggest race of my life in June. Race Across the West is a 925 mile race in 92 hours with over 60,000 feet of climb and a day crossing the desert in the extreme heat.
